We are seeking 3-6 volunteers to contribute to the development of a systematic review and meta-analysis on the impact of childbirth on pelvic floor reconstructive surgery outcomes.
Many epidemiological studies have recognized age as a significant and independent risk factor for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI). Reconstructive pelvic floor surgeries aim to improve women’s quality of life and are performed even at a relatively young age. Moreover, it has been reported that one in four women experience subjective POP recurrence and/or re-treatment.
Many clinicians consider a future pregnancy as a relative contra-indication for pelvic reconstructive surgeries and would recommend either postponing surgery or caesarean delivery for a woman who has already had a surgical procedure for pelvic floor prolapse or stress urinary incontinence. Scientific evidence to substantiate such recommendations is scarce.
