Tell us about where you currently live (city/country) and how you ended up in this location.

I have been a consultant in Birmingham for nearly 20 years. I came here as there was an opportunity to set up my own unit as a tertiary service serving up to 5 million people.

Tell us about your work - your job title, where you work, how long you've worked in the field, areas of focus or research, etc.

I work as a Urogyanecologist although a lot of my research is into maternal trauma from childbirth and currently trying to prevent premature delivery. I am lucky enough to have been awarded a research scholarship which now funds 1 day a week driving new research ideas.

When and why did you decide to join IUGA?

I have been a member of IUGA since about 1998 (ever since Linda told me I had to be a member!) More recently my membership comes through the BSUG and I would endorse the benefits of this affiliation to other national societies. I have always found IUGA the most friendly of the international societies.

What has been your most rewarding or memorable IUGA experience?

The most rewarding undoubtedly was to have served on the Scientific committee under the chair of Dudley Robinson where you have the privilege of working with some great people and as ever learn more than you can ever contribute. The most memorable would have to be the friends I have made along the way (Princess Vivian, amongst others, you know who I mean!)

What is the last book you read or movie you saw? Would you recommend it?

Well I watched A Star Is Born on the way to Nashville. I now want to watch on a big screen and with a great sound system. I watched Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald on the way home!

What are your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

As many already know I played rugby when I was a youngster (until my body started to fall apart and Linda told me to stop!). My kids overtook this as my main past time and now they are all older and driving (dad's taxi no longer required so often) I like to hack round a golf course when I can. My wife is trying to get me engaged in gardening but that is seriously more complicated than medicine.

What is one "fun fact" about you?

I once published a paper entitled Roasting Chestnuts by the Fire: Ramsay’s Syndrome, hypothesizing why male chefs have lower fertility rates.
