What is the IUGA Fellowship Development Mentorship Program?
Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) physicians provide comprehensive care for women with pelvic floor disorders, including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, lower urinary tract disorders, colorectal-anal dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, and childbirth-related injuries.
The IUGA Fellowship Development Mentorship Program is designed to support the development of new fellowship programs globally, aligned with standards in countries where urogynecology is recognized as an official subspecialty, sush as the U.S., U.K., Australia, and The Netherlands.
Through structured mentorship, participants receive guidance in planning and developing their fellowship programs.
Program Structure
The selection process includes:
- Completion of the application form
- Panel review
- Interview
- Notifcation of acceptance
The application gathers information to assess institutional readiness, available resources, and areas where mentorship support may be beneficial.
Fellowship Development Focus
The mentorship program supports participants in developing a fellowship aligned with recognized international training standards.
Mentorship may address:
- Clinical training structure
- Diagnostic and surgical training components
- Research and scholarly activity
- Institutional and accreditation considerations
- Curriculum development
The aim is to support sustainable, high-quality fellowship training.
Application Requirements
Applicants will be asked to provide information about their institution, clinical services, surgical capacity, research environment, accreditation context, and plans for fellowship curriculum development. The purpose of this information is to understand institutional readiness, available resources, and areas where mentorship support may be beneficial.
Required attachments:
- CV of the contact person
- Letter of intent (maximum one page)
- Letter of support from the institution (may be submitted separately after the rest of the application; confirmation that it has been requested is sufficient upon submission)
