We have received a petition to establish the IUGA Sexuality and Pelvic Floor Disorders Special Interest Group (SIG), providing a dedicated, multidisciplinary forum within IUGA for collecting and disseminating knowledge, advancing research, and improving clinical care at the intersection of female sexual health and pelvic floor disorders (PFDs).
Sexual dysfunction is one of the most common yet under-addressed consequences of pelvic floor disorders and their treatment. A large and growing body of pelvic floor literature—including the joint IUGA–ICS terminology report on the assessment of sexual health in women with PFDs—confirms both the clinical importance of this topic and the interest within our community in developing a coordinated and standardized approach.
Despite this, IUGA does not currently have a SIG dedicated specifically to sexuality. Related work is therefore distributed among individual researchers, ad hoc collaborations, and other professional societies. The proposed SIG will bring this expertise together within IUGA and create opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration, education, research, and the advancement of clinical practice.
