Looking Ahead Together at IUGA

IUGA Banner

Dear Members,

Looking back on 2025, IUGA has a great deal to be proud of. Driven by our Strategic Focus Areas, we have put a strong emphasis on building collaborations. Our first ever Joint IUGA/EUGA Annual Meeting was a great success, with more than 1,750 attendees joining us in Barcelona. We were delighted to come together with EUGA to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of IUGA as one global family. We also created both the IUGA Museum and the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book to mark this important milestone. In Barcelona, we unveiled our new logo and updated mission which reflect the global reach of our society. We continue to focus our vision on achieving pelvic floor health for all women.

The International Urogynecological Consultation Chapters 1 to 3  have been completed and Chapter 4 is well underway. The Terminology and Standardization Committee published a joint paper with AUGS on Female Bladder Pain Syndrome and, in collaboration with ASCRS, the Innovation, Research and Development Committee published a paper on Obstructed Defecation Management. We launched our collections within the International Urogynecology Journal, to encourage more submissions.

We also focused our efforts on education, awarding the first InSpIRE recognitions in Barcelona. We are currently accepting applications for our next InSpIRE cohort, so make sure to check if you are eligible for this special recognition. To further support our focus on education, we continuously add content to both the IUGA Academy and the International Academy for Pelvic Surgery (IAPS), ensuring our educational offerings remain relevant and add value to your membership.

Another important step in 2025 was the launch of the Global Health SIG, reinforcing our commitment to improving pelvic floor health for women worldwide.

Reflecting on the past year, I would like to sincerely thank the IUGA committees, SIGS and all our volunteers for the important work they do and warmly welcome all those who have stepped into new volunteer roles. We are deeply grateful for our IUGA family.

The start of a new year brings opportunities to strengthen our work together and improve pelvic floor health for women around the world. We will continue to invest in education through the IUGA International Symposium in February, and our first online Surgical Masterclass in March, ensuring our offerings remain relevant, practical, and valuable for our global community.

Advocacy will remain a key focus in the year ahead. Through FIUGA and the development of a white paper, we will continue to strengthen our collective voice in support of women’s pelvic floor health worldwide. Collaboration will also remain central to our work, as we further develop partnerships with organizations such as the International Menopause Society, GynZone, International Office for Pelvic and Women’s Health, and others who share our mission. We look forward to the work of the new Publications committee and increasing collaboration between the Communications committee and the IUGA Patient Advisory Group.

Preparations for our 2026 Annual Meeting in Rio are well underway, with our Workshop Committee, Local Organizing Committee, and Program Committees working enthusiastically to deliver a high-quality scientific and educational program.

As we enter this new year, I wish you and your families good health and happiness and I look forward to seeing you in Rio in June 2026!
