Dear IUGA Members,
Welcome to this edition of the IUGA Spotlight! As always, we are delighted to bring you stories that celebrate our vibrant global community and the remarkable individuals who continue to shape the field of urogynecology.
In the 50th year of IUGA, we begin with a new series: a special Spotlight on our past IUGA Presidents, reflecting on their vision, leadership, and the legacy that continues to inspire us today. In this issue, we have featured Professor Peter Dwyer, our beloved past President from Australia.
We then follow with key insights from colleagues and IUGA leaders worldwide, starting with Alexandra Mowat's strong argument to replace the term "hysterectomy" with "utrectomy". Fiona Lindo, the Chair of the IUGA Fellowship committee, then speaks about the activities of the committee, including its achievements over the past few years and its goals in the near future. Mikio Nihira then offers thoughtful reflections on the role of AI in Urogynecology.
Continuing our focus on IUGA leaders, we feature a video interview with Professor Nazli Hameed, IUGA’s South Asia Representative on the International Advisory Board, whose dedication to regional collaboration and education exemplifies IUGA’s mission. We also include an engaging piece by Leon Plowright, who explores the current status of the use of bulking agents for the management of stress urinary incontinence. We then follow with the Cochrane Corner, in which Dr. Manidip Pal and Soma Bandyopadhyay share a summary of the Cochrane review on the role of cranberries in prevention of urinary tract infections.
Finally, we close with two videos from Catherine Matthews and Sarah Collins, the Chairs of the Surgical Committee and the Terminology Committee, who have elaborated on the activities of their respective committees.
We hope this issue leaves you informed, inspired, and connected to our shared purpose—to advance urogynecological care through education, research, and global collaboration. I thank our committee members for their diligent work in putting together this issue.
