Current Status of IUGA Grants:
In the recent newsletter, which was distributed on Feb. 21, IUGA Treasurer Anna Rosamilia explained that due to financial challenges facing the association that the board had made a number of difficult cuts to the budget for this year.  Among these, the board decided that IUGA grants, including international fellowships, observerships, and research grants, would be suspended this year.  However, the board and staff are currently investigating the possibility of securing external support for these grants.  If such support is secured, members will be in contacted immediately.  The board is hopeful that by stabilizing IUGA’s finances and securing external support, that the IUGA grant program will be reintroduced after this year.

IUGA offers 3 types of grants: International Fellowships, Observerships, and Research grants.

International Fellowship Mission:
The IUGA-sponsored fellowships allow for increased dissemination of urogynecological knowledge by funding travel and living expenses for a trainee to visit a renowned Urogynecology Center and perform a fellowship as well as formulate and complete a research study.

Observership Mission:
IUGA offers educational Observership grants in the amount of $4,000 USD each.  Observership grants are meant to offset costs of visiting an approved host site which has proven expertise for a specific specialty (selected by applicant). Recipients will spend 2 to 4 weeks at a host site, with the agreement that a formal report of the observer's experience will be submitted to the IUGA office at the completion of the observership grant. The reports are published in the IUGA newsletter and posted on the IUGA website.

The IUGA Basic Science and Clinical Research Grants are designed to fund original research by an IUGA member or trainee. Annual grants will be granted, based on a research proposal, as judged by the Research and Development Committee. The Research Grants are designed to fund development of the proposed research projects including all materials and testing, statistical analyses, and services required to complete the research. IUGA will fund basic science as well as clinical research studies.
