Tell us about your work—your job title, where you work, years of experience, areas of focus or research, and what inspired you to pursue your career.

I am a urogynaecologist, gynaecologist, and obstetrician, currently practicing at a tertiary referral hospital in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With 16 years of experience in medical practice, I recently completed a three-year subspecialty training in urogynaecology, during which I had the privilege of learning from some of the best mentors in the field. Pursuing this subspecialty was a natural choice, as it allows me to delve deeper into the dynamic and rapidly evolving field of pelvic floor disorders.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received during your career?

Throughout my career, there have been ups and downs. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel like quitting at times. However, the rewarding moments—when a patient’s quality of life improves after treatment—make it all worthwhile. The best piece of advice I’ve received is to work with sincerity and never let ego guide your actions.

What motivated you to join IUGA, and what does being a member mean to you?

IUGA is a renowned association that unites urogynaecologists worldwide. Being part of an organization with like-minded professionals who share the same passion and support each other is what motivated me to join. Membership in this esteemed association has opened many doors for me—allowing me to connect with experts whose work I had previously only read about, and whose surgical skills and innovations I greatly admire. Most importantly, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be mentored by one of the distinguished urogynaecologists who is an active committee member of IUGA.

What has been your most rewarding or memorable IUGA experience?

Being a member of IUGA offers many valuable perks. The most rewarding aspect, in my opinion, is the opportunity to forge new friendships and professional connections that extend beyond the conferences. One of my most memorable IUGA experiences was attending my first IUGA conference, where I had the privilege of meeting experts in the field and learning immensely from their insights.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work? How do you unwind or de-stress after a long day?

Outside of work, I enjoy peaceful moments spent reading books with a cup of coffee. I’m also a fan of watching Korean dramas on Netflix. When it comes to physical activities, I can be a bit erratic, though I do enjoy hiking, running, and kickboxing. However, my favorite pastime is undoubtedly sleeping as much as time allows.

What’s a "fun or surprising fact" about you that most people don’t know?

A fun and surprising fact about me that most people don't know is that I'm a caffeine addict. I drink 6-8 cups of coffee a day, and the number increases with my workload and stress levels. I’m also quite friendly, despite my unapproachable appearance.

Do you have a favorite book, movie, or music genre that you’d recommend?

I listen to various genres of music, but my favorite will always be songs by John Mayer. I’ve also read many of Mitch Albom’s books, which I find both heartfelt and comforting
