The IUGA Board, at its March meeting, approved formation of a new Robotics Special Interest Group (SIG). As the use and availability of robotic surgery in the field of urogynecology/female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery continues to increase, so too does the need for a mechanism for IUGA members with an interest in robotic surgery to share their knowledge and experiences with one another to further support the advancement of our field.
Like all IUGA Special Interest Groups, the Robotics SIG will have access to an E-Discussion Forum to assist SIG members in communicating, networking, and collaborating. The Robotics SIG aims to disseminate knowledge on a global level – to practitioners as well as patients and patient organizations, through proposed publications and social media. The SIG also provides a forum for interested members to discuss how robotic surgery can improve quality of life and reduce complications for patients, clinical indications, and exchange tips and tricks as well as technical information and new ideas.
Dr. Steven Schraffordt Koops, a gynecologist from the Netherlands, will be the Chair of this new SIG. Barry O’Reilly, a gynecologist from Ireland, will serve as the Co-chair. Additional inaugural SIG members are (alphabetically by last name):
- Leonardo Bezerra (Brazil)
- Patrick Culligan (USA)
- Catherine Matthews (USA)
- Lisa T. Prodigalidad (Philippines)
- Tommaso Simoncini (Italy)
IUGA members interested in being part of the Robotics SIG may join by logging in to the IUGA website and marking the checkbox next to the Robotic SIG. Be sure to hit the SAVE button before exiting the page!
