September is Sexual Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to encourage greater awareness and understanding of sexual health and its role in overall health and well-being.
Sexual health can be influenced by many factors throughout life, including physical health, relationships, life stages, and health conditions. Pelvic floor disorders can also affect sexual function and well-being, making it important that people feel able to discuss their concerns and seek appropriate information and care.
Open and informed conversations can help reduce stigma around sexual health. Access to accurate, evidence-based information also helps people better understand their health and make informed decisions about their care. As the World Health Organization highlights during World Sexual and Reproductive Health Month, sexual and reproductive health is closely connected to health, dignity, well-being, relationships, and quality of life.
This September, IUGA encourages patients, healthcare professionals, and communities to help create an environment where sexual health can be discussed openly and respectfully.
