This guideline has been published in the latest issue of the International Urogynecology Journal (IUJ), providing comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations on the prevention, diagnosis, surgical repair, short- and long-term management, and follow-up of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIs). Developed for use across a wide range of healthcare settings, the guideline aims to improve maternal outcomes and support best practice worldwide.
Led by A. H. Sultan, N. A. Okeahialam, J. De Leeuw, L. Hickman, A. Madsen, G. Cundiff, L. Cattani, M. Giroux, S. Doumouchtsis, S. Lozo, H. Neels, G. Ganyaglo, M. Alarab, N. Rajmaheswari, C. Polle, and R. Thakar, the guideline was developed by an international multidisciplinary panel of experts from the IUGA Obstetric Pelvic Floor and Anal Sphincter Injuries Special Interest Group (SIG). It provides comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations on the prevention, diagnosis, surgical repair, short- and long-term management, and follow-up of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIs), with practical guidance for both high- and low-resource settings. The guideline has been endorsed by FIGO, ICS, EUGA, EBCOG, and supported by AUGS, reflecting broad international consensus on best practice in the management of OASIs.
