We are now accepting nominations for the following elected positions within IUGA:

Board of Directors

  • Vice President – 2-year term (+ 2-year term as President followed by 2-year term on the Board as Immediate Past President)
  • Treasurer – 2-year term, renewable once

International Advisory Board (IAB)

  • Africa Representative – 3-year term, non-renewable

Committee Chairs

  • Scientific Committee Chair – 2-year term, renewable once
  • Social Media Committee Chair – 2-year term, renewable once
  • Terminology & Standardization Committee Chair – 2-year term, renewable once

Nominating Committee

  • Member-at-Large (2) – 2-year term, non-renewable (2 positions)

IUGA seeks to have members in leadership positions who represent the geographic and multidisciplinary nature of the association. Members from Africa, Asia, and Latin America are therefore especially encouraged to apply, as well as non-physician members from all regions.

Nominations for the elected positions above will be accepted from March 17, 2022, until 11:59pm CDT on May 18, 2022. The term for each of these positions will begin January 1, 2023.

Nomination Process

As specified in the bylaws, the Nominating Committee will receive all nominations, will review them, and will present the proposed nominees at the IUGA Annual Business Meeting on Friday, June 17, 2022, in Austin, TX, USA. Nominations will also be taken from the floor during the Annual Business Meeting. At its discretion, the Nominating Committee may put forth one, two, or more candidates for each open position.

Nominations may be submitted by any IUGA member in good standing, including the nominee him or herself. A member may be a candidate for only one position. Those making nominations are asked to reflect on the qualifications related to the position for which they are nominating themselves or a candidate. Qualifications, as well as essential and desirable competencies, for each open position are listed below.

To Self-nominate:

Self-nominees should submit the online Nomination Form. On this form you will indicate the position for which you are self-nominating. Please be prepared to upload your position statement/statement of interest; this should address your interest in the position, any experience you have relevant to the position, and the qualifications and competencies. You will also need to upload your CV and photo, and complete the online Disclosure Form

To Nominate an IUGA Colleague

To nominate a colleague, please email the IUGA Office (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) with the name of the colleague you are nominating and the position for which you are nominating them. The IUGA Office will then contact the nominee to 1) confirm they are interested and willing to stand in the election and 2) to request the nominee submit the online nomination form and requested materials.

All nominations must be received by 11:59pm CDT on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Qualifications for Open Positions

Vice President

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Previous contribution to IUGA (i.e., hosting or organizing an Annual Meeting, Regional Symposium, or eXchange) AND/OR previous participation as a committee chair or International Advisory Board member, etc.
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of the past 5 years
  • The duties of the vice president are to:
    • Succeed the president upon the completion of the president’s term.
    • Perform, in the absence of the president, all the duties and have all the powers of the president.
    • Aid the president in the organization of the Association and may serve as the president’s proxy for running meetings.
    • Perform such other duties as shall be assigned by the Board of Directors.
    • Supervise all committee chairs.

Treasurer

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Previous contribution to IUGA (i.e., hosting or organizing an Annual Meeting, Regional Symposium, or eXchange) AND/OR previous participation on the Advisory Board (i.e., Chair, International Board member, etc.)
  • Proven ability to read financial statements (example – head of department involving budget management)
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of the past 5 years
  • The duties of the treasurer are to:
    • Ensure that sound financial records are kept, that sound financial practices are in place, that appropriate financial reports are provided on a regular basis to the board and that necessary band account for the association’s funds are established.
    • Serve as the primary contact with the IUGA Office in the development of a budget for the Board’s consideration.
    • Submit a financial report to the membership of the association for its review at the association’s Annual Business Meeting.
    • The IUGA Treasurer typically also serves as the Treasurer of FIUGA (IUGA’s Foundation) and also holds a voting position on the FIUGA Board of Directors.

International Advisory Board Representative – Africa

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Be a resident in the region to be represented
  • Demonstrated commitment to IUGA and evidence of leadership/involvement in the development of urogynecology in the region
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of past 5 years
  • The duties of IAB members are to:
    • Meet with and provide counsel to the Board of Directors
    • Serve as Chair of the Regional Advisory Board for the region
    • Serve as a member of the IUGA Membership Committee
    • Initiate symposia and other educational activities in the respective region

Scientific Committee Chair

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Has previously served on an IUGA Committee
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of the past 5 years
  • The Scientific Committee Chair guides the work of the committee in developing the scientific program of the IUGA Annual Meeting (abstract review and selection).
  • Essential competencies for this position include:
    • Experience scoring abstracts
  • Desirable competencies for this position include:
    • Personal track record of research (preferably clinical; translational/basic is an extra); individual needs to know how to assess work and at times make decisions regarding the methodological robustness of the work submitted

Social Media Committee Chair

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Has previously served on an IUGA Committee
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of the past 5 years
  • The Social Media Committee Chair guides the work of the committee, including reviewing and approving posts submitted by members to ensure they unbiased and represent sound research practices.
  • Essential competencies for this position include:
    • Active presence on social media (active accounts on at least 2 channels) and a good understanding of social media
  • Desirable competencies for this position include:
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
    • Solid understanding of evidence-based medicine/scientific evidence standards for social media publishing and commenting
    • Previous leadership roles in organizing/promoting events
    • Publications in the field of urogynecology to demonstrate solid understanding of the scientific evidence IUGA is disseminating

Terminology & Standardization Committee Chair

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Has previously served on an IUGA Committee
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of the past 5 years
  • Has participated in at least one IUGA Terminology Writing Group
  • The Terminology & Standardization Committee chair guides the work of the committee, including oversight of the development, publication, and subsequent management of IUGA documents related to terminology and standardization.
  • Essential competencies for this position include:
    • Publication in a high impact, peer-reviewed journal
    • Availability for 1-2 meetings/month
  • Desirable competencies for this position include:
    • Has been a member of the Terminology & Standardization Committee for at least one term

Nominating Committee Member-at-Large

  • Minimum active membership in IUGA: 5 years
  • Attended IUGA Annual Meeting in 3 of the past 5 years
  • Submission of current CV with nomination
  • The duties of the Nominating Committee are to:
    • Vet nominees; prepare and submit the slate of nominees for open elected positions to the Board of Directors for presentation at each Annual Business Meeting.

If one candidate for a particular position does not receive a majority (over 50%) of the vote, a run-off election will be conducted October 3-24, 2022, with the results announced the first week of November.
