Women’s Health Foundation (WHF) Announces Allergan Foundation Grants

Grants Will Fund Best-In-Class Written & Video
Educational Programming for Pelvic Health

CHICAGO, IL – May 23, 2016 – Women's Health  Foundation (WHF), the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to improving women’s pelvic health and wellness, announced today that it has received two grants from the Allergan Foundation to create video and written pelvic health educational materials for women and girls.

Have the Conversation: Mother-Daughter-Mother Pelvic Health Discussion Guides leverages the unique relationship between mothers and daughters of all ages to improve pelvic health literacy. WHF will create conversation guides for women ages 35-55 to facilitate discussions of often “taboo” issues with their adolescent daughters and/or their own mothers using content from WHF’s evidence-based and award-winning publications.  Included in the guides will be basic pelvic health anatomy visuals, frequently asked questions, healthy behaviors, common symptoms, and when to get help.  The guides will be offered in English and Spanish, both in print and digitally, and distributed nationally along with other WHF content.

The second grant, Ages and Stages Pelvic Health Video Series, will allow WHF to create short, shareable videos designed to increase women's engagement in and understanding of topics from WHF's online Healthy Pelvis Center. Created by WHF in consultation with experts on its board of directors and advisory board the series will be hosted by Missy Lavender (WHF Founder and Executive Director) and selected health care providers.  Topics covered include an introduction to the pelvis; common pelvic conditions; what’s normal; healthy behaviors for management and function; when to seek care; and available treatments and healthcare providers.

“Bringing our educational material alive in video format is one of our primary goals this year,” said WHF Founder, Missy Lavender, “and we are thrilled to have this early support from the Allergan Foundation.  The videos will be constructed so as to maximize the likelihood that women and girls might feel comfortable not only ‘liking’ them on social media, but ‘sharing’ as well – the ultimate test of any digital communication.”
